On Sunday 27 October 2024, the president of the Asd Fausto Coppi on the road, Davide Lauro together with the eighty-seven year old Giuseppe “Jose” Viale, historic runner from Borgo San Dalmazzo with many amateur races under his belt throughout the region and cycling enthusiast, delivered to the director of the museum in Magreglio (CO), Carola Gentilini, and to the president Antonio Molteni, the jersey worn by Viale in the summer of 1987 at the first edition of the Cuneo event. Jose Viale participated in twelve editions of the Cuneo granfondo, finishing 26th out of approximately two thousand participants in the first epic event.
The official uniform of the debut of the event will be exhibited in the prestigious jerseys area of the museum and will become an important piece for the exhibition that tells the story of cycling with a wide-ranging look with testimonies, memorabilia and many memories that represent a strong message of love for two wheels starting from the competitions, the pleasure of pedaling, from the well-being of a workout to the pleasure of discovering the territory on two wheels.
The official race jersey is a symbol of Fausto Coppi, it must be worn by all cyclists and it brings the mountains of Cuneo to the world and tells with the flags of the countries represented how the event of the North West is appreciated and has become an international event.
This donation is a further gesture to reaffirm the historicity of the granfondo and the strong bond with the world of cycling at all levels. It can be admired by the many visitors who every year do not miss the opportunity to discover the exhibition rooms.
